Planning is under way for the inaugural R E A P National Conference on the Spirituals, co-sponsored by The Spirituals Project and the University of Denver. The conference will focus on the “many varied dimensions” of the spirituals (from The Spirituals Project Guiding Vision statement) as represented by the four pillars of Research, Education, Activism, and Performance.

The Conference will be held on the campus of the University of Denver. Out-of-town guests will be housed in Nelson Hall, one of the newest, air-conditioned residence halls on the campus. Davis Auditorium and classrooms located in Sturm Hall, along with spaces in The Women’s College will be utilized for plenary sessions, breakout sessions, and performances.

We are currently soliciting proposals for conference presentations. We especially encourage presentations with a primary focus on one of the four pillars of Research, Education or Activism, with a secondary focus on one or both of the other pillars (the Performance pillar will be represented through invited presentations). Proposals should be submitted online no later than October 15, 2012. Presenters whose proposals are accepted will also need to register for the conference.
