Audition for the Choir

Our mission is to preserve and revitalize the music, history, and social justice teachings built into the songs created and first sung in the 18th and 19th centuries by enslaved African people in America, and to ensure that the spirituals are passed on to future generations.

choir foldersBecome a member of one of the country’s most unique and dynamic choral groups.  Auditions for the Spirituals Project Choir are held once a month, usually on the 3rd Thursday of the month. We’re always eager to welcome committed new voices to our community, and invite singers who share a passion for the spirituals and a desire to work for justice, healing, and reconciliation  to audition for the Choir. We offer joyful and challenging singing experiences, the joy of sharing the richness of the varied spirituals traditions with audiences, and the opportunity to forge new friendships, thereby enriching all our lives.

Some musical experience, a strong singing voice, an ear for harmonies, and an eagerness to be involved in the mission of the organization are the basic requirements. The ability to read music is helpful, but not essential. New members are asked to attend an orientation session to further their understanding what it means to be a member of the Spirituals Project Choir. Please feel free to contact us to schedule your audition.
